Ellie Inspired Holiday Tour – Polar Express Pea Coat and Sugar Plum Sweater Dress

Hi Everyone! I am excited to be a part of the Ellie Inspired Holiday Blog Tour. I was very glad to get to review not just one, but two of the wonderful Ellie Inspired patterns. I have been a fan of the Ellie Inspired patterns for awhile, but I hadn’t sewn one yet. I will definitely being sewing up more of these patterns.

 

I started off with the Polar Express Pea Coat. First off the name caught my attention because Mr T LOVES trains and LOVES the Polar Express. I love the look of a Pea Coat, it is something that is dressy, but also can be paired with sneakers and jeans.

The Polar Express Pea Coat comes in sizes 1-16 and is a beautiful dress coat with tailored details such as a full lining, back vent, lapel collar, and double-breasted. Optional couture techniques also included to help you take your sewing to the next level.

 

 

 

I loved the optional techniques included with this pattern. I definitely learned some new things, including adding a sleeve head and adding an interlining. I also love that their is such a wide range of sizes that I can sew this one for years to come. It took me a little longer than normal to sew this coat up, but that is just because I really took my time with it to make sure I got it just right.

Along with the Polar Express Pea Coat, I made the Sugar Plum Sweater Dress for Ms. G.

The Sugar Plum Sweater Dress comes in sizes 1-16 and is for a beginner sewing level. It is a comfortable top or dress with options for either short or long sleeves and a crew neck or turtle neck.

For my version of this pattern I upcycled another old sweater of mine, which worked perfectly with the turtleneck version of this pattern. I used the top length and extended it just a bit to make it tunic length to pair with leggings. This pattern came together very quickly, after cutting the pattern out it only took me about 20 minutes to sew it up. This will definitely be one that I turn to over the years. I think it is one that will really grow with Miss G as she gets older.

…and just so you know what kind of conditions I am working under here, these are just a few of the crazy pictures that I got out of Miss G. How silly is she?
