Knot Sew Normal’s Handmade Disney

Handmade Disney by Knot Sew Normal -

Well…it has been a few months since we went to Disney, but I am finally getting around to getting this blog post all finished. I hope you all enjoy.
We LOVE Disney. All things Disney, but one of my favorite new trends is the trend towards unique Handmade Clothing. Don’t get me wrong, we own lots of the cookie cutter merchandise, but there is something so satisfying about going to the parks in something uniquely your own. Keep reading to see how we put our own twist on our Disney vacation.

Our first day was to Hollywood Studios where my husband, Mr T and I all sported Avengers inspired shirts. I used the freezer paper stencil method to make these shirts. Mr T’s shirt is upcylced from 2 t-shirts and I used my go-to raglan pattern, the Grand Slam from Peek-a-Boo Patterns. I dyed an old white tank top army green for my shirt and just googled the Avengers logo. For Hubby and Mr T’s shirts, I found the freezer paper stencils over at Doodlecraft, click here to get the images.

It cracks me up that Miss G is still wearing this top. I actually upcycled this when she was very little. I used an old Mickey Mouse shirt and winged this top. I think this might be one of the first garments I sewed for her.

Our second day we headed over to Epcot for some food and fun. Gracie’s outfit is a self-drafted Jasmine inspired outfit. I had planned to do a tutorial on this outfit, but I ran into so many issues when putting it together I just scrapped the idea. I may revisit the tutorial in a few months. Mr T’s shirt is a Dusty Crophopper inspired shirt, using the Maxwell Top pattern by Shwin designs.

Handmade Disney by Knot Sew Normal - Minnie Mouse Circle Skirt and Upcycled Spiderman Raglan

Our 4th day we headed over to Animal Kingdom where Miss G sported a polka-dotted Minnie Mouse inspired circle skirt. Mr T is wearing you guessed it, an upcycled Spider Man shirt using the Grand Slam Pattern. I color-blocked this version for some more interest.

We headed to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween all dressed up. The kids were Tink and Peter Pan, Hubby was a Pirate and I was Rapunzel. Tinkerbell just loved the kids all dressed up and she thought it was a hoot when Mr T actually crowed for her.

The day after the Halloween Party we were headed back to Epcot where I wore my Rapunzel themed, “Keep Calm and Carry a Frying Pan” shirt, Miss G wore her upcycled Snow White Inspired shirt and Mr. T wore his Hulk Grandslam.

Allen wore a t-shirt with the old castle logo on the front and the words “Old School” freezer paper stenciled on it.

I think this photo of the three of them in front of Gaston’s Tavern is one of my favorites.

  1. I found this post by searching for “sew” and “Disney” on Twitter (that’s how I find other like-minded people… LOL!) and love all of your customized ensembles. I am a huge fan of Peter Pan, so of course the Peter Pan, Tink and Tink photo made my heart melt the most. Thanks for sharing! I’m excited to have found another sewing/Disney friend!
