I am sure all of us that sew or create have had this happen. You work REALLY HARD on something and then your kids hate it. This happened to me last summer with this cute 4th of July dress. Miss G wore it one time and then refused to wear it again. She loved the fabric, but she doesn’t like dresses that have elastic around the bodice. I sure am glad to know to avoid them from now on. If you make something your kids hate what do you do? You UPCYCLE. I also have a free Independence Day Printable for you after the jump.
You make them a new dress that they ADORE.
I have made 2 other Willow & Co. Persimmon tops for her so I knew it would be a great solution. You can check out the other Persimmon Tops here. and here. I did have to make a few changes to the pattern. The panels of red fabric weren’t quiet wide enough for 4 pleats so I only did 3. I also had to add a ruffle to the bottom of the center panel, since I only had this fabric in fat quarters and it wasn’t quiet long enough. I have to say I am thrilled with the outcome of the dress. Best of all it is something that Miss G LOVES. She has already worn this dress 3 times since I finished it and she will wear it a 4th time for Independence Day.
This picture just kills me. When did Miss G get so grown up? I would love to pause time for just a bit and enjoy her at this age for just a while longer.
